Workaround to allow MacOS 9 users to make use of the features of QuickTime 6 while still being able to use Echo Fire's LiveFire video-to-FireWire routing. BackgroundEcho Fire works fine with MacOS 9 and OS X with QuickTime 6 except for one feature, the LiveFire video-to-FireWire routing feature (of particular interest to ProTools users), which does not work with QuickTime 6 either under MacOS 9 or OS X. This is because Apple removed a capability Echo Fire needs for FireWire routing when they moved to QuickTime 6. OS X requires QuickTime 6, but if you are using MacOS 9 there is a workaround to allow you to make use of the features of QuickTime 6 (most notably, MPEG-4), while still being able to use the Echo Fire LiveFire feature. Instructions (for MacOS 9 Only)The workaround involves mixing components of both QuickTime 5 and QuickTime 6. Comingling versions is not something Apple supports, but we have many customers doing this without problems. However, you must follow the instructions below carefully to make sure you end up with the proper configuration.
